We're excited about the upcoming Android app update, which includes significant performance enhancements. This means smoother messaging, faster chat loading, and an overall improved experience. This update will begin rolling out soon, and everyone should receive the update over the next few days.

However, to achieve these benefits, there may be a brief delay (a couple of seconds) when opening the app after the update. We want to be transparent about this so you know what to expect.

Here's what the update aims to fix:

• Delayed message display: If you've noticed a delay after sending messages, this should be resolved.
• Slow chat loading: Certain chats taking a few seconds to open? This should be much faster.
• Did you ever try to scroll up in a chat and noticed it got stuck while scrolling up? This experience should be significantly improved now.

• Fixed an issue where scrolling your gallery for attachments could get mixed up or show confusing results
• Fixed an issue where voice messages couldn’t be sent as replies

• Avatars might use placeholders instead of displaying the proper one
• Voice message waveforms might go outside of the bubble boundary
• Images might not be decrypted after being downloaded
• Voice message drafts could get stuck in the composer forever
• Clearing storage for too many chats too quickly could cause the app to crash
• The search bar could disappear after interacting with it
• The typing indicator animation dots could get out of sync

  • Currently, we only support receiving and responding to incoming messages. You cannot start new conversations yet.

  • You can now filter searches by network and attachment type
  • Search works for specific senders and chat names, and in combination with the filters
    • For example, selecting “Videos” and typing “Amanda” will search for all videos sent from anyone named Amanda
  • Experimental image recognition using on-device ML tagging
    • For example, searching “cat” will show all pictures of cats
    • Note: only images received AFTER you upgrade to this version will tagged
• Discord Server and Slack Workspace names appear next to chats (eg #general - Chess Players )
